As a national-level NGO, Sewalanka has a dual mission: first, to enhance the capacity of rural communities to democratically identify and address their own development needs, and second, to provide services that contribute to the economically viable, socially just, and ecologically sustainable development of Sri Lanka. Based on local demand, Sewalanka works with fisheries cooperative societies, farmers' organizations, women's groups, rural development organizations, producer groups, small business associations, and youth groups. Over the past 15 years, Sewalanka has helped thousands of conflict and disaster-affected communities throughout the country transition from dependence on relief aid to self-reliance and sustainable development.
